THE TENTH ANNUAL GENERAL MANAGER AWARDS

THE "CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR" AWARD
STEVE

For the second year in a row, Steve gets to the Super Bowl......but doesn't win.....

Unlike last year however, when Steve was the overall points leader until that final week,
Steve didn't even get into positive points until the last week of the season!!

So how did he end up with the fourth best record in the regular season,
and earn a wildcard spot in the playoffs,
and come within a single point of winning the Super Bowl????

I don't know, but close but no cigar is better than most of us can say!

THE "THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT BRETT" AWARD
T / J

T/J selected Brett Favre as their backup quarterback this season.....
not really unexpected since he did turn 40 this year.
and hadn't come close to his TD totals of the mid to late 90's in quite a few years......

So what happens?
Favre looks like a kid again, and ends up throwing 28 TD's
and lands in the top 6 of all QB's in IOFFL scoring!!

Leaving us all saying, come back next year Brett!

(and maybe, how about one more movie -
this time, There's Something About Brett!)

THE "YO ADRIAN!!" AWARD
PATRICK

Rocky Balboa added the phrase "Yo Adrian" to the American lexicon.

Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Viking rookie running back from Oklahoma,
gave "Yo Adrian" a whole new meaning!!

Especially among NFL defenders who had nothing else to say
as he ran by them to the end zone!

Adding six - and many times TWELVE - points to Patrick's score.....
And finishing second to only LT among all RB's in IOFFL scoring!

THE "ROMEO" AWARD
CHRIS Q

Tony Romo was Chris Q's starting QB all season.
And a mighty fine job he did - finishing second among QB's only to Tom Brady!

Still, it was his scoring OFF the field that may have been most impressive!
Carrie Underwood, Jessica Simpson, and who knows what other starlets!

Too bad we don't give points for girlfriends!!
But if we did, Tony Romo would be earning perfect 10's!!
(Although maybe he should stop bringing them to his games!)

THE "KIELBASA" AWARD
J / M

Jim and Mike drafted two kickers and stayed with them all season.
Kicker one: Stephen Gostkowski
Kicker two: Sebastian Janikowski

With those two names, there's no doubt they know a thing or two about the Polish delicacy!

And not too mention, kicking a football!

THE "NICE, BUSH" AWARD
C / R

As in, Reggie Bush, C/R's first round draft pick......

But not 24 hours after our last waiver of the year,
New Orleans announces some kind of leg injury to Reggie Bush,
and that very possibly he may not (and turns out - he didn't) play the remainder of the season.

Not a very nice thing to do to C/R,
especially considering that his backup, Aaron Stecker, scores four times in two weeks -
but remains a free agent!

Luckily Nick Folk, the Dallas kicker, was there to help carry the load,
but as Porky Pig says, That's All Folks!

THE "OK, ITS NOT SO BAD TO RECEIVE!" AWARD
M / F

Despite having LT on their roster, the real scoring for M/F comes from their receivers.
With Terrell Owens and Greg Jennings leading the way,
M/F blows away the record for receiver points by 21 !

But who was throwing them those TD passes??
Certainly not the M/F QB's!
Those guys - Jay Cutler, Donovan McNabb, and Carson Palmer -
combine to produce only 77 points for M/F.....
better than only two other IOFFL teams!!

THE "GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY" AWARD
J / R

Until picking up Ryan Grant (and Ernest Graham) in the waivers,
the R/J/L franchise really needed some help.........and a lot of points!!

Grant and Graham answer R/J/L's prayers,
and helped turn what could have been a trainwreck of a season
into something at least somewhat respectable!

(you've heard it hear first - next season Lawrence Maroney ends up a top five rb!)

THE "I WAIVER MY WAIVER" AWARD
ED

Despite having a top three pick in each waiver this season,
Ed passed on two of the four waivers held.

This offseason special "how to make a waiver pick" courses
will be held on Candlewood Lake for a nominal fee!

You bring the beer!

THE "THE BRADY BUNCH" AWARD
P / J

Move over Greg and Marcia......perhaps the most famous Brady of them all is now Tom!

Pete and Joe select Tom Brady in the second round,
and come back and select Randy Moss in the next round.

Those two guys set single season scoring records for their respective positions....
records last set in the prior century!! (so what that that was less than 10 years ago!)

Led by Tom Brady and his Patriot fun bunch, P / J runs away with the 2007 points title,
and then holds on to win the Super Bowl!

THE "PHOENIX" AWARD
B / G

As late in the season as Week 8, B/G was next to last in total points,
and looking for an early waiver pick for Week 9.......

But then, like the fabled Phoenix rising from its ashes to new life,
B/G turned their season around and went from next to last to next to first!

Over the second half of the season, B/G scored 347 points,
an average per week of over 38!!
Oh, and in the last nine weeks, a total of 4.5 Weeklies......
Just 1/2 of a weekly short of the record for a full season!!

But as for the playoffs, alas, it was the classic case of too little, too late......
or maybe it was just plain bad luck!

and last but not least.............................

THE "EXPERIENCE TRUMPS YOUTH AGAIN" AWARD
FRANK

Vince Young, the young QB stud so successful as a Tennessee rookie......
Kurt Warner, the cagey veteran years removed from The Greatest Show on Turf......

So who has the better season???
Hands down, its the old guy.....

Despite starting only 11 games, Kurt Warner throws 27 TD's.....
the first time he's had more than 11 since 2001!!

Meanwhile, Vince Young doesn't even break double digits,
throwing 9 and rushing for only 3 more,
after throwing 13 and rushing for 7 last year.

AND NOW FOR THE SERIOUS PART......

Once again, THANKS to all the players in the IOFFL!!
As always, it has been a lot of fun!
