THE FIFTEENTH ANNUAL GENERAL MANAGER AWARDS

THE "DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN" AWARD
STEVE P

Looking back at IOFFL history, Steve had an amazing run of 3 Super Bowl wins in 4 years,
and 5 Super Bowl appearances in 6 years.

In 2012, Steve led the league in total points for a good part of the season.
But that's where the similarities to the past stopped.

Steve loses the division title in the last week of the season,
and then is knocked out of the playoffs in the first week.

Still - there is that Total Points thing.

THE "CAST AWAY" AWARD
T / J

Perhaps the most famous character in Cast Away was not even an actor.
It was a volley ball
And it had a name - WILSON!

T/J had their own Wilson - but it wasn't a volleyball.

With all due respect to Robert Griffin III, maybe the best rookie QB this year was Seattle's Russell Wilson.
And T/J had them both. Although Griffin started most of the year over Wilson,
when T/J gave Wilson the start in Week 15, he responded with 21 points.

I don't think he'll be a backup next year.

THE "MUSCLE HAMSTER" AWARD
BILL

Doug Martin - Tampa Bay rookie running back.
AKA - The Muscle Hamster

Really?

Still, his 42 points in Week 9 ties the IOFFL record for most points in a single week by a RB.
I guess if The Muscle Hamster is ok by him, its ok by us.

THE "MUST BE MORMON" AWARD
RANDY

Round 2 of the Draft: Calvin Johnson

Round 4 of the Draft: Reggie Bush

Round 7 of the Draft: Michael Bush

So we've got 1 Johnson, 2 Bush
Yeah, that sounds about right.

THE "A WONDERFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD - OR NOT" AWARD
STEVE N

Or at least - it should have been.

Taking Aaron Rodgers with the first pick,
and then taking a risk on Adrian Peterson at the last pick of the second round,
and have him end up as the #1 running back in the 2012 season -
well, this year should have been a gimme.

So what happened?

A 6th place finish in total points - and no weeklies.
Go figure.

THE "CAM'ING AROUND AGAIN" AWARD
C / R

Looking to follow up their 2011 success with Cam Newton,
C/R made Newton their first pick of the 2012 draft.

Newton had some big weeks in 2012, but nothing like 2011.
(Although he did suggest a suggestion box.)

Still, "winning" the Toilet Bowl while finishing 7-7 was really undeserved.

THE "GOOD NEWS BEARS" AWARD
M / F

M/F finishes 3rd in Total Points and wins 3 weeklies.
And wins the Eastern Division.

A big part of all that goodness??
The Chicago Bears D/S.
Put up 60 points for M/F this year. Close to the single season record for D/S scoring.

Take away even 48 of those 60 points and M/F is in the bottom 3 in points.
Somewhere Walter Matthau is smiling.

THE "WHAT LUCK" AWARD
R / J / L

Evidently just because you have Andrew Luck on your team doesn't mean you'll be lucky.

With Tony Romo, Eli Manning, and Andrew Luck at QB,
Mason Crosby and Justin Tucker at Kicker,
And Trent Richardson and Alfred Morris at RB,
the roster was loaded with starters.

Now, if they could just start the right ones each week!

R/J/L was #2 in the league in total points available to them.
But they end the year as the first team in 15 years of IOFFL history
to end up getting below 60% of those available points.

There is good luck and there is bad luck. 2012 was all about the latter.

THE "AN OFFER THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN REFUSED" AWARD
JOE B

On a MetroNorth train to NYC, 4 days before the game, an offer was made to split the Super Bowl winnings.
Joe's response: I'm not losing to a girl.

Well, we know how that turned out.

THE "ROCKY TOP" AWARD
PETE Q

Tennessee - known for Jack Daniels, the Smoky Mountains, Country Music,
and "Rocky Top" - theme song of the University of Tennessee.

Add one more thing to that list - Defensive and Special Teams scoring.

In 15 years of IOFFL history, many D/S teams had scored 12 points. Several had even scored 18. One had even scored 20.
But no team had ever scored 24 points.
Not until Week 17 of the 2012 season, when the Tennessee Titans scored twice on punt returns and twice on interception ret

And Pete had the good fortune of starting them that week, despite starting the Steelers almost all year long.

THE "SUPER SOPH" AWARD
MARY

SUPER BOWL!!!
#2 IN TOTAL POINTS!!!

Yes, 2012 was definitely a better year than 2011!!

Let's hear it for the girl!!

and last but not least.............................

THE "AVERAGE JOE" AWARD
FRANK

No Weeklies.

Half a game under .500. Missed the playoffs.

#7 overall in Total Points. Almost 0.00 in Net Points.

No weeklies.

Yep. This year I was about as middle of the road as one can get.

But then - good thing its fun.

AND NOW FOR THE SERIOUS PART......

Once again, THANKS to all the players in the IOFFL!!
As in years past, its been another great season!
